You might have thought the UK had seen its fair share of snow this winter, but today we woke up to a whole lot more! Most of Britain was covered in a layer of snow and experiencing sub-zero temperatures. The hazardous weather has forced airports and railway lines to shut, making it extremely hard for commuters to make it into work.
While all this snow is great news for snowmen, it is worrying for business owners who rely on staff to keep the business running smoothly. In fact, the Forum of Private Business (FPB) has warned small business owners that staff absenteeism because of the current conditions could cost small businesses in the UK a huge £230m.
With this in mind small businesses need to plan ahead and ensure staff are as best prepared and have all the information they need if they do get affected by the adverse weather. Solutions could be to working from home – this negates the risk of lost time in trying to overcome the snow and possible danger of having your employees face treacherous commute conditions.
What are you doing to stay productive in the current cold snap?
And it’s not over yet as forecasters warn more is on the way, predicting six more days of snow fall. The Met Office has said that minimum temperatures have dropped to their lowest levels for 15 years, with snow expected to be between 15 and 25cm deep in parts of the country.
Don’t let the snow slow down your business, be flexible, plan ahead and take the necessary precautions. It’s also worth keeping a close eye on the weather forecast; the Met Office provides updates of all the latest forecasts and offers advice.
