You might have already read our previous blog post on Intuit’s new Charity Challenge competition, which gives UK charities the chance to win £500 every two weeks until Friday 19th November. We’re pleased to announce the first two winners!
The first Intuit Charity Challenge charity winner, announced earlier in October, was Network for Africa. They said they will buy 22 solar lamps for 22 Rwandan genocide widows whom they train in literacy and commercial skills. Having light will allow them to produce crafts in the evening in their huts. In addition their children will be able to study. With the money raised they can sell the crafts and buy more lamps for more widows in their programme. Network for Africa reach around 50 vulnerable women a year, training them in life skills like nutrition and health, family planning, literacy and how to manage money. They form business co-operatives, making crafts and food they can sell locally. Their co-operatives also function as mutual support groups, taking turns to mind infants while mothers go out to work. Solar lamps would extend their capacity to work and study.”
