HMRC to crack down on PAYE dodgers
Employers with a track record of avoiding PAYE and National Insurance (NI) payments will have to make an upfront security payment from April, under a new scheme unveiled by (HMRC).
Failure to pay the security will lead to a fine of up to £5,000 as the taxman cracks down on employers who deliberately cheat the HMRC, and their staff, out of employee tax payments.
Tax authority pulls plug on electricians who don’t pay up
Electricians will this month start receiving letters from the taxman warning them to pay any undisclosed taxes.
Electricians have until 15 May to register with the scheme and until 14 August to disclose any tax owed and arrange payment. If they make a full disclosure, most face a penalty of 10% and a maximum of 20%.
HMRC to send out 900,000 penalty notices
At the end of this week HMRC will start sending out around 900,000 penalty notices for failing to file 2010/11 Self Assessment returns on time.
